If you suspect your emotions are contributing to your perception of pain, as a certified pain reprocessing therapy healthcare provider, Dr. Judith Ancheta Goguen, Naturopathic Doctor can help guide you to re-learn safety signals.
Neuroplastic Pain Assessment
Is your brain misfiring, and causing you to experience pain levels that do not seem to correspond with the structural findings in your imaging? Take the test below to determine if your pain may in part be neuroplastic pain.
Place a check mark beside the statements that relate to your pain:
- Pain originated during a time of stress.
- Pain originated without injury.
- Pain symptoms are inconsistent – pain is experienced sometimes, and not others.
- Large number of pain symptoms are occurring in multiple, unrelated parts of the body, without evidence of a systemic disorder eg. multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis or systemic lupus erythematosus.
- Symptoms spread or move.
- Pain symptoms are triggered by stress, or are lessened, or improved during a pleasant experience or activity.
- Pain triggers are not related to the body but may be a conditioned response to a neutral situation.
- Pain symptoms are symmetrical, which are not likely to be associated with a physical problem occurring on both sides of the body, and at the same time.
- There is a delayed report of pain following an activity, and not during an activity.
- History of childhood adversity. Major trauma from abuse and neglect is associated with the development of chronic pain as adults. Minor traumas that contribute to a sense of feeling unsafe in childhood, which could be feeling ostracized on social media, being bullied, or attending an ultra-competitive high school, can predispose a person to chronic pain. Adverse childhood experiences can cause a person to see the world through a lens of danger, which makes a person more susceptible to neuroplastic pain.
