What Your Community Naturopathic Doctor Has Been Up to This Summer!

It has been a terrific summer full of learning (and teaching!) in the naturopathic trenches here at the Richmond Hill and Markham Clinics.  This past summer has been filled with attending various events which you may have seen us at, some of which included being at our local LA Fitness Vaughan Gym and Health Club, at the Canada Day Celebrations at our local Richmond Green Park, participating in On Richmond Hill Community meetings at the Richmond Hill Centre for Performing Arts, in and around the aisles of Loblaws Markham with the community registered dietician participating in the Diabetes Workshop for patients of the Markham Family Health Team and attending this upcoming weekend’s Maplefest Festival 2013 at the Maple Community Centre.

With all these terrific events supporting a healthy community, the highlight of it all has been the one-on-one mentorship that has been taking place with a fury through educational partnerships with the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine Preceptor Programme, which trains delightful Naturopathic Medical Interns in our community clinic setting who are preparing for practice and also working with the York District Catholic School Board High School Co-Operative Education Programme Students.  It has been an inspiring summer, with evidence that the best is still yet to come with our quickly approaching Fall season.  Stay tuned and see you in and around our lively community!

For the Health of our Children and our Communities

A special thank you to lovely teacher Wendy Vaiopoulos for inviting me to attend the Children’s Wellness Expo 2012 at the Varley Art Gallery in Unionville.  Candid pictures were taken by talented photographer, Craig Richardson which you can see here.  Cheers to the health of our community!

Terry Fox Run: Keeping the Dream Alive

This past weekend was a hit, participating with other spirited members from The Richmond Hill Rotary Club and from the surrounding community to outrun cancer at Mill Pond Park in Richmond Hill for The Terry Fox Foundation.  The Terry Fox Run is a community event which depends solely on the generous donations of community volunteers and supporters so all proceeds raised support cancer research.  It was exciting to be around beaming faces, and to see the triumph of the young and old alike, crossing the finish line!  As always, thank you all for your support of our community events.

Alberta Becomes Fifth Province to Regulate NDs!

The Alberta government announced final approval of the regulation of Naturopathic Doctors!  As of August 1, 2012 the new College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta will regulate the NDs who practice there.  NDs across Ontario are celebrating the regulation of Alberta as the fifth province; as mentioned in the Journal of the Canadian Medical Association (CMAJ) publication, the new College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta will ensure consistent regulations and practice standards across the country.  This consistency in practice standards across the country is better for Naturopathic Doctors practicing in different jurisdictions and beneficial for all patients.  Congratulations Alberta!
